4th of July Party 2023 at the Zistelalm

4th July Party 2023 at the Zistelalm

On 4th of July we celebrate the Independence of the United States of America from Great Britain’s rule. It is the day the Congress voted to approve independence by passing the LEE RESOLUTION on July 2 and the Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence two days later, on July 4. In other words, the United States of America were established on July 4th, 1776, i.e. 247 years ago, when the Founding Fathers Delegates of the Second Continental Congress declared that the Thirteen Colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of Britain, King George III, and were now united, free, and independent states.

Personal Thoughts on the Fourth of July

There are a number of misunderstandings about the USA and its history and not just among Europeans. One of the biggest ones was that the USA, as we know it today, was somehow preordained. However, just a quick perusal of history demonstrates that this was never the case. The USA in all its expressions, ways of thought and institutions, was never planned and no one could foresee how it would develop. In fact, one can speak of an experiment. There is something called “American Exceptionalism”.
